Wythenshawe Park was a new venue for me – only 3 miles from home. I have run round it on training runs but never raced there before. The course was pancake flat but still had some deep pools of mud and an interesting twisty section through the woods.
The women were led home by Clare with Sue just behind. I had a tussle with Sally M but her cold allowed me the upper hand. Amanda,Cat, Penny,Angie,Julie and Louisa followed on in quick succession.
We then enjoyed basking in the sunshine whilst supporting the men. The weather was positively balmy – I know those who don’t run X country probably think we’re the barmy ones…
The presentations for us started just as the men finished running. Luckily Julie heard Clare’s 3rd place being announced or we would have missed it all. The seniors hung on to silver but just missed out on the day in the vets. Last year we were 6th and dnf respectively so a massive improvement all round.
After a protracted wait for the mens results in the afternoon sun we seemd to have scooped a lot of prizes. 3 team medals and 6 individual honours by my reckoning. So the pub beckoned -and was well deserved.
