Wilmslow men win Cheshire XC Championships

It is a trophy that has previously eluded the mens team but not today.

Not content with the Senior mens trophy , the veterans championship was similarly won.

The temperatures seemed lower than the 8′ reported as runners alighted from cars to be met by biting winds and a muddy multi-lap course with some sort sharp rises that caused some real difficulties. The runnners were indebted to the support provided by Sue Hoole , Dave Read and Tony Hulme. It is always appreciated . Thanks also to Kate and Nicki for staying to give your support.

The ladies were down on their usual numbers but still finished seventh senior team : well done Kate (18), Nicki (22)and Amanda(29) . Kate and Nicki were also 2nd and 3rd V45 .

The mens team knew that they would need to run well to win as Vale Royal always place well in the County Championships. Although Tom was unable to run through injury , we are fortunate to have a strong squad that is deep in talent .

Malcolm and Damian battled for bragging rights before Malcolm edged ahead to finish 6th and 7th respectively.

Rob and Stuart packed in the teens ( 14th and 15th ) and then came Jim (25th) .

Our last counter would be vital and Ian Smallwood (36th) did the team proud ensuring that the trophy was ours .

Helping the six counters to win the trophy , all of our runners played their parts , pushing further down the field , other teams counters .

Gavin worked his way through the field (71st) just ahead of Mark (75th). Welcome to Don in his first club XC outing (86th) . Trevor completed the team (111th) .Well done on a tremendous achievement : Cheshire County XC Champions.

Results are now available on the Cheshire AAA http://www.cheshireaa.com/Results/XCC/2008xcc.htm

The trophy will be at the club on Tuesday where we will proudly retain it for a minimum twelve months !

Congratulations to all runners in tough conditions.

Our pursuit of Manchester XC honours continue next Sunday at Woodbank Pk .

Nick.
