Tales from the lead bike : Mobberley Five

To quote the immortal phrase from John Motson as England beat Germany 5-1 some years ago : "Oh yes , this is getting simply better and better ". So too it could be said for the " Big Malc presents "series of summer mid week jaunts !

Race highlights :

  • Elite field swells from one to three as Damian and Andy Norman enter the fray.
  • Entries break the 100 mark and exactly 100 finish
  • Over £400 raised for charity
  • Dave Read sweet talks "blonde Range Rover driving hello darlings Cheshire society figure" into baking cakes for next years repeat event
  • Splendid pub HQ  complete with bowls match to support the main atraction : The Mobberley Five mike trail race .

Rarely can inaugural events have succeeded so well.

Just as with the David Lewis event , a sublime evening .. I will leave the race details for one of the runners but for me , another great night .

Feedback appeared even more positive from all concerned :  A great setting , a real buzz and a fine race with very positive comments over the course .

Everything went smoothly with a couple of potential bananna skins : Any race where the start is away from the HQ and the finish a touch further still , with a level crossing to create added interest en route to the start could challenge … Not so for "big Malc productions".

Malcolm even arranged for the crossing to go down minutes before the race start  , but after the runners had made their way to the start line to prevent vehicles encroaching .

The race was won by Andy Norman of Altrincham with Wilmslow trio Damian , Mike and Malcolm placing 2nd , 3rd and fourth and thus winning team . Well done to Damian , only 30 seconds behnd Andy Norman .

The ladies also scooped winning team with Kate Sutton 2nd lady and 1st V45 , the emerging Cat Marshall 1st V40 and Julie Lucas completing the ladies team : A taster of things to come from a buoyant ladies team blossoming in the capable hands of Dr Kate.

www.ukresults.net will have results but initial draft here.Download mobberley_trail_race_results.xls

What a great effort from our own Andy Penney : photos on this site less than 12 hours from the finish !

More to come from Mick Hall. www.mickhall-photos.com

Apologies to the two ladies from Mossley who did not get time to smile as Mick Hall caught them unawares with his camera ; I am sure that the photos will do you justice !!

And so well done to all that ran , that supported and that made the evening such a fine event.

From your "elite out rider"

Have fun whatever you do !!

Nick.

Great race, good atmosphere and a really interesting route. Brilliant weather too as for David Lewis race. I really hope this well-organised series sticks to fill up the late summer midweek lull. Only disappointment was Mrs G asking ‘Where have you been?’ as I crossed the line. Duh.
