The Men narrowly beat Macclesfield to retain first place. The Ladies were beaten by Macclesfield and Vale Royal on the day and slip down to 3rd. after two races.
Commentary from Adrian Thiemicke (Cheshire RR GP Coordinator):-
"In the women’s race, Macclesfield not only won the GP event, but also (to their own surprise !) won the team prize within the race itself. If they manage to get full teams to enough GP races this year, they could be tough to beat. However, after only 2 races, the individual award looks like it could be heading the way of Tattenhall’s Marilyn Kitching, who took her third straight GP victory (including the last race of last year). Unfortunately, with my Cheshire team manager’s hat on, I cannot pick her for the inter counties because she is Welsh. This though does not preclude her from taking part in the GP, as that is based on first claim membership of a Cheshire club.
In the men’s race, defending champion Mike Halman also maintained his 100% record this year, and led Wilmslow to a very narrow victory over Macclesfield.
John Driscoll will be sending out the handicap results in due course. If you have not yet replied to John’s request to ‘vet’ the 2006 race results for runners from your club, feel free to do so !
The next GP race is the Wilmslow 1/2 marathon next month, for which entries are now closed.
Please encourage your runners to wear their club vests in all road races. Although I do not disqualify anyone from the GP who does not wear their vest, it certainly makes my life much easier if people do wear them, as it makes GP runners easier to spot. We had several queries at Helsby, some involving runners not wearing their club vest, and it was only because we knew them by sight that we able to positively identify them.
Also, I have just found out that the Christleton 5k (which this year is NOT a GP race) is PRE-ENTRY only….

Ladies team – Macclesfield are only 21 points ahead and Vale Royal 5 points. They both started strong last season and then faded. Still 5 more races to go – good turn out so far from the girls – we CAN beat them!
