Saturday saw two teams of men competing in the NW Road Relays at Blackpool. Sadly we had no female companions, relays are great fun as it allows the unique opportunity of competing and also supporting your colleagues.
Rob was a worthy team manager and we were also appreciative of Tony apperaing to give very welcome support.
Mike Halman ( running the following day in the GNR ) , Damian ( on the town in Blackpool) and Stuart ( need to get away sharp ) all made their own way . Mike Cooper, myself , Tom , Andy Penney and Rob engaged in good humoured banter in one car.
Any concerns of no- shows were fast banished and the team of eight were soon together in Stanley Park. Over half wore smart Wilmslow shorts in addition to vest ( it does finish the strip off ).Some discussion over order of running and final declared teams were :
A Team B Team
Leg 1 Rob Nick
Leg 2 Mike H Andy
Leg 3 Stuart Mike C
Leg 4 Damian Tom
After leg one things started to get confusing as the course was over a large and small loop twice, but as distances between runners increased in the later legs and the odd marshall and sign dissapeared things went a little wrong for some.Andy Jones(Salford ) in the lead on leg two went the wrong way and tales of some runners doing three laps with others one began to unfold.
No worries for Wilmslow. Personal details not to hand but congratulations to the A team who finished fifth overall and first Cheshire club. Not sure where the B team finished but all received medals as third placed Cheshire club after Vale Royal A( second ).
From casual conversation it sounds like all eight ran good legs and well done to Mike running six days after the Nottingham marathon.
Good result , so the next relay is ?
