Nice sunny Sunday morning, pleasantly undulating leafy lanes, perfect for a Sunday jog along the country lanes of Higher and Lower Whitley – and a large, keen crowd had got up for the 10K.
As we lined up Mike Halman confided that he wasn’t going to run “fast” after his victory over 5 miles the day before. There was a bit of discussion about where the start line was and suddenly we were off. After about quarter of a mile there was some confusion at the fork in the road just after the duck pond. The leading pack went right, the marshall signalled left and I dashed through to momentarily take the lead. Shortly after that Mike disappeared as quickly as ever on his way to a sub 33s time. My own race became more about navigation as I lost sight of the runners both ahead and behind. The final mile involved weaving through the stragglers of the Fun Runners and a quick run round the village field. Mike Cooper and Jane were close behind followed by Tony (limping), Don, Ian and Julie.
