Injury status after July

Update on injuries our runners have at the moment. Seems we have only 3 plus me that are injured!!

Bill Heaton:

.I’ve seen a new (to me) physio ( I’m not sure how many I’ve seen now) at the Spire Hospital in Macclesfield. I’ve been given plenty of new exercises to do, many with a resistance band.

The overall pain in my lower back and pelvis is reduced but as soon as I try to walk quickly or run the irritation returns.

I’m still on a list to see the back specialist but that could be some time.

Jan Wyles:

My Ankle injury is quite persistent, it really doesn’t like speed work or off-road, doing the mob match wasn’t my best idea! .  It’s been about 10 weeks now, I’m building up slowly but won’t be back doing Tuesday intervals for a while yet.

My recovery is coming along really well thanks, my hip is now completely pain free and I’ve been able to start running outside again. Physio has set me up on a sort of Couch to 5k return plan. I feel unfit but don’t care… just so happy to be back outside running again!!

Hope everyone else is doing well x

Hippy-Hoppy:

Well what a month. Not a great month. Losing Mojo. A trip to the physio who filmed me on the treadmill! Then she showed me it! If I was a racehorse, she’d have called the vet to put me down. Had a ultra sound scan on calf. This only proved what I told the Consultant before – I didn’t think that was causing my inability to rise onto my toes using my right leg! Saw Consultant who reviewed the scan report and agreed it wasn’t my calf! I suggested my upper leg – which I suggested an MRI to the GP a year last May! But no, he’s convinced upper leg is ok – ignoring the muscle wastage!! And booked me into a re-xray of the hip and knee. Followed by an MRI on the calf this Friday.   Then sometime in September I see him again! With regard to the March Injection in my hip which Covid caused to be cancelled; they apparently, they are not doing injections at the moment. It lowers the immune system for several months. So if a problem it will be pain killers!! Last weeks trip to the physio jad her deciding I must be doing too much strengthening the right leg and my left leg is causing me trouble – hurt most with the massage!! And suggested my hips are now out of alignment!! Also suggested I should do running 3 times a week about 1.5-2k.

Did an attempt at hobbling on my way home; and the following day. But leg has been ever so sore since!!

I might turn this all into a book one day as it seems to be going on for the imminent future.

Take care everyone. And listen to your body. Don’t put off resting or seeking advice if things don’t appear normal.

  1. Bumped into Bill on The Edge on Wednesday so got an update at first hand. Saw Jan on Tuesday at training so ditto the above. Not seen Claire for months so good to hear she is on the mend, although couch to 5k did make me smile considering what a star she is! Patrick, well, what can one say other than how sad to read of all your ongoing problems. I do hope the “experts” find a solution and you can run again soon. As Patrick says, listen to your body and don’t try to push through an injury!
