PARKRUN RACE SERIES COMPETITION – END OF FEBRUARY REPORT

February has been a popular month for the Wilmslow course, however our other seven courses have seen fewer WRC runners this month. Sale Water parkrun saw the lowest turnout of the competition with no-one attending any of the four February events.

At the end of February, we now have 45 members who have participated in at least one of the eight parkruns in this year’s competition (2 entries on the 2018 Race Series table).

On Sat 10th Feb, Lyme Park had problems with the timing watch, so all runners were recorded but times are logged as 59.59. Luckily, we only had one runner affected Stephen Feber, I expect he will tell us he did a PB that week!!

February’s lowest turn-out was Saturday 24th perhaps due to Sunday races, with both the Terry Nortley 10 Mile Trail Race (first race of the 2018 series) and the popular Village Bakery Wrexham Half the day after.

We have three qualifiers this month, so congratulations go to our London Marathoner Colin Walton who is the first runner to complete the ‘Popular’ courses of Wilmslow, Bramhall, Lyme Park and Congleton. We also have Richard Lawson and Ian Ashcroft who have both completed the ‘Enthusiast’ courses of Sale Water, Burnage, Stretford and Wythenshawe.

Hot on their tails we have Tony Hulme who has completed 4 courses (2 at each) together with Chris Cannon and Carolyn Hirons who have completed a total of 3 courses each (1 Popular/2 Enthusiast). Maybe we can see them all qualify next month?

We have no parkrun milestones this month but our most impressive statistic must be the WRC dominance at Wilmslow on 17/2/18 where out of the first 11 finishers, 7 were from the club. The prize for most exotic parkrun of the month goes to Nicky Mowat who ran at the parkrun Du Bois de Boulogne, Paris. Hopefully she had a post-run croissant on the bank of the Seine afterwards.

With the weather taking a turn for the worse this week many of the early March parkruns could be cancelled, but hopefully as the month progresses there will still be enough chances to increase your parkrun scores.

Happy March parkrunning

Elspeth
