    Club Handicap familiarisation run
    Dec 22 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am

On Sunday 22nd December we’ll hold the traditional Handicap familiarisation run.  This originated as a familiarisation jog round the Handicap course for those who had not run it before but developed into a social run, for many at chatting pace, with a tradition of bringing along cakes and other goodies to eat afterwards.  There are usually in addition a group who want a proper workout and go ahead at a faster pace.  As in the Handicap itself, non-members are welcome.

So if you’re doing the handicap for the first time or like me, do it most years but still get lost in the woods, or want to take part in a fun social run, or want to practise running the course, meet for a 9 a.m. start at the Club on Sunday 22nd December.  Bring flasks and treats and we congregate in the covered seats in the car park after the run.

The real thing is on Friday 27th December.  Don’t forget to let Ian know if you’re running and Trevor Faulkner if you want food.

    TREVOR’S 1000TH RACE

To friends in Wilmslow Running Club

No doubt you are already thinking of Christmas and our traditional Handicap race on Friday 27 December, which is the way we get back into our normal running routines and burn off some of the excess festive calories. It is a unique race over a great, varied, course and is always held in a brilliant Wilmslow Running Club atmosphere.

This year, it will also coincide with being my 1000th competitive race. I would like to celebrate this occasion by providing the late-morning lunch and refreshments in the function room. The food will consist of a variety of sandwich platters and tarts, with no heavy Christmas puddings. There will also be a free bar, although draught beer is shut down over the holiday.

I hope to enjoy seeing you all on 27 December. To give me an idea of numbers to be catered, please let me know if you can come, and if you would prefer vegetarian options.

Bowstones New Years Eve Run 7 miles
    Dec 31 @ 9:45 am – 11:30 am

    Popular with our club runners.

Sold out. Can be wait listed. See website

RACE START is on the bridge across the canal, Lyme Rd, just up the road from Nelson Pit car park, Higher Poynton, SK12 1TH
    ****Race starts at 10 am****

The Bowstones are a pair of ancient Anglian cross shafts situated beside the old ridgeway between Disley and Macclesfield overlooking the gorgeous Lyme Park, with extensive views across the Cheshire Plain, to the city of Manchester and the hills of the Peak District.

The race starts from Higher Poynton and winds its way uphill, crossing the Macclesfield Canal, into Lyme Park, joining the Gritstone Trail up to the Bowstones themselves, before passing Lyme Hall and the deer sanctuaries near Lyme Cage, eventually winding back down to Higher Poynton.

It’s a tough challenge, but the views (and the free bottle of beer to all finishers) make it more than worthwhile.
