Adizero Podium Distance Project events 16 July 2022 Barrowford – 1m and 5k

A good quality event took place on Saturday at Barrowford [Lancashire].

The track has seen some sterling times in recent years by some of our elite runners. A chance to challenge themselves against quality runners.

What happened?

What a night of racing at the Adizero Distance Project!
Andrew Heyes 1:04:06 came out on top in a brilliant race over the half marathon beating Mahamed Mahamed 1:04:23 with Phil Sesemann 1:04:56 coming home in third.
In the elite 5k the excitement went right to the final seconds. Calli Thackery made her intention clear from the off but in the end came up just short of the British record finish with an amazing 14:58.
Alfie Manthorpe took the 5k win in 14:12 in a close finish beating Richard Allen of Leeds. In the 10k Calum Johnson 29:15 took the glory after a great battle with Ben Connor 29:18. In the ladies Eleanor Bolton led from start to finish 34:57, this just 50 minutes after taking the mile win in 4:53, where a brilliant close race saw Michael Wilson 4:14 take glory just ahead Dan Bebbington 4:14.

We had 3 Club members running. Tim and Qes in the 1 mile. and  Richard the 5K[B] race.

All broke existing Club Records in their Age Categories.

Richard: – “Went off too fast but good to give it a go and led the race out. Lacked a bit of strength in last mile but that will come”.

Qes – a big smile and a proud mum.

Tim – a great result with recent injury problems.
