WRC Series Race #9: Dunham Massey 5k Report and placings updated

There is some issues with some placings  and omissions which have delayed the official results.

RESULTS UPDATED :

After a sweltering hot day 26 Club runners turned up to run at Dunham Massey on Thursday night.

Officially known as the Dave Telford Memorial Dunham Massey 5k (“downhill”) the race offered runners the chance to improve on their time in May when they ran the other way!!

Ian Smallwood for once was in the area mid-week and not only competed – but has given some feedback:

A bit of good planning meant I was in Wilmslow for the Dunham Downhill. A hot sweaty evening of great racing was in store.

Before the start there was a mass of Wilmslow runners discussing a long string of excuses (dodgy ankle, dicky knee, have a cold, wrong shoes etc) in the hope that it might convince everyone that a slow run was anticipated. No one listened. I was really pleased to see so many Wilmslow members there, it always makes me run faster when I am chasing/being chased by a fellow club member. On the other hand the anticipated haul of summer points was very much reduced – next time I must choose a less popular race.

The downhill start was impossibly fast, my legs would not spin fast enough to keep up with the crowds who disappeared ahead. Once we had turned the bottom corner, I crept up on Nick and Huma then tried to cruise effortlessly past – failed miserably – I was puffing and blowing like a steam train as I went slowly past them. But onwards I went speeding round the top corner and stretched my legs a little more downhill. Colin and Alan just ahead, tempted me to go faster so I past them round the bottom corner then immediately regretted it as they stormed past me up the hill. Down the hill for the final time, legs tired, all done I thought, then with 100m to go Andy Watts appeared on my shoulder – a sprint to the line was the last thing I could do…another summer series point lost!

A really enjoyable race

Ian

Mike was omitted from the results! Dave was in twice!  Now OK – I think.

Graham ran his fastest 5k this year. I imagine a few of you also had your best 5k this year?

  Gareth biding his time 🙂

  1. A great turn-out by the club on a hot Summer’s evening. I was just happy to break 30 minutes, although to be some 6 minutes behind the rest of the club shows how well everyone is improving (or is it that I am just getting slower?).
