Injury Update post February

Luckily for most of you there appears to be only 3 of us still injured.

Emily Moss:

After spending the past 3 months doing resistance work to strengthen my knee back up and lots of stretching to try and loosen my legs up, I’m planning on starting up running very steadily!

I’ll be back at training soon! 😊

Bill Heaton:

I might have missed Bill’s update last month so here it is again..

I’ve just been to see the specialist and the MRI scan shows that I have arthritis in the sacroiliac joint. The good news is that I can still run without causing further issues. I can only shuffle and can’t put any pressure through the pelvis without instant pain. Fast running is overrated anyway.
I deal with it on a daily basis and adjust my training accordingly. At least I can get out and enjoy the countryside and the freedom running gives us.

I did a Mob Match 5km in 23 minutes. I’m not quite sure how I did it but paid for it for a couple of days. As soon as I run there is pain that I can manage. If I try and run quicker then usually it’s only for a very short distance.

I’ve done one 9 mile run very slowly. It’s almost easier to run a little further than the 3/4 miles jogs I’ve done for a long time. Maybe I’ll be back on Tuesday nights when we’re allowed.

I’ve tried calling my GP about the medication I’m on at the moment as I’ve not spoken to him since I was diagnosed with the arthritic SI Joint. I don’t know if there’s anything that can assist. I can’t get past the recorded Covid message which says they are dealing with emergencies only.

Hipperty Hopperty:

Have managed 3 Mob matches by extending my Couch to Potato reps to 5k. Then tried the bypass as it seemed to be preferred by our mob’ster runners – equalling my best mob match time. I felt great the day afterwards. Started looking forward to running the 5ks others had done: the Melrose Flier, the Summerfields-Wilmslow Park Grumpy Old Men 5K and the No Smoke Without House 5k. Unfortunately, on my weekly Supermarket Run next day, I discovered I had less bags than normal – but being an very good packer it didn’t seem to matter. Lifting bags into the trolley, then bags from trolley to car, bags out of car and finally bags into the Kitchen; followed by a recovery walk with Luna seemed no problem. However, come mid-afternoon I couldn’t walk or bend! And the next week was rehab!!  No jogging or long walks.

Still better news – After speaking to my Hip consultant this week. I can have my next injection as it seems to help me pain-wise and we are nearing 6 months since it was last done. Even better  – with a cancellation just occurring I can have it  later this month. I might have finished the final reps of the NHS Couch reps by then.

In response to why my shin/calf pain/spasm which causes my limp occurs; all he could offer was posture compensating for Hip!! And to try  to do some Yoga and Pilates!!!
