Injury Update – Status November -updated again

Well we have had feedback from the regulars – but no updates from other club members 🙁

Bill:

I finally got to see the specialist last week, only seven months after the original appointment was cancelled due to Covid.
The delay allowed me to have more physio and to strengthen my ‘core’.
It also gave time for the L4/5 issue to be resolved.
The diagnosis now is that I’m left with a sacroiliac joint issue. It’s been going on for several years and now chronic.
I’ve (hopefully) an MRI scan this Friday and then I’ll be back to the specialist.
I can still shuffle around and beyond that, who knows!

Update! So……less than three hours before the scan was due it was cancelled, supposedly a fault with the scanner. I’ll be given another appointment but who knows when. It’s 9 months since I was told I was having an MRI scan. 🤔😷

Roy:

It has now been almost 3 weeks since I last ran having aggravated my achilles tendon injury. I have had physio with Wayne Fish a couple of times and he has also given me both a heel lift and some exercises to do. It is improving but I am going to leave it another week or so before trying to run as I don’t want to go back to square one. I have been out cycling, but as you know there is no substitute for running.

Jarrod:

In a nutshell- I am slowly getting better. I can get away with 2, max 3 runs/week. I’m trying to minimise it at the moment- so plenty of elliptigo bike-ing; normal cycling, swimming etc.

Having a month break from Tuesday wont actually be bad thing- as I really should be running more slowly.

Hip-Hop_Happy:

What a month.  I had my telephone conversation and my bloods were ok. So were my scans – though I had a bit of muscle atrophy in the hamstring just above the knee – an old injury? Well that probably was the Edinburgh marathon when my hamstring went at 18.5 miles – probably the fittest I have ever been. Completed the marathon and then ran 6 races in the next month, including my fastest 5k. Then had some post race physio after that 5k and got advice that i should rest and see a physio!!!!

Agreed to have the injection and see how it went – otherwise it would be a new hip!  Injection the following week and the movement and pain reduction great.  Taking it very easy and sensible as I don’t want o strain anything and my immune system has been lowered. Walking is much more comfortably and easier. Have manged a dog walk and a jog to date.  Hit the gym before it shut.  Now a very slow recovery programme and fingers – and toes – crossed.

Matt: Apologies for my slow response.  Unfortunately my life is dominated by work at the moment so running has been squeezed out during the week apart from the occasional Tuesday evening and some short late runs in Congleton. I miss the Thursday evening long run from the club. They have been completely out of the question for me this year.  On the plus side the reduced mileage has enabled me to recover from any injuries. I’m pleased to say that I have absolutely no injuries or niggles at present 🤞.  Just not actually doing as much running as i would like. I am sure like most people I’m looking forward to 2021, in the hope of racing and competing a little. Winter certainly won’t be the same without XC.

Rebecca:  So it’s my metatarsals on my left foot I have been having issues with (since August oops!)

Physio said it was a “bone bruising” but have been referred for a scan but God knows when that may be!

Its manageable if I’m sensible! Got upto 13km last week and am slowly building up the mileage. I have been doing more on the spin bike and try to rest it as it just gets a little swollen/tender between my 2nd and 3rd toes. Rest is hard when I’m a PT and in my feet most of the day!

Anyway, this lockdown may help me “rest” it slightly more…but need to make sure I don’t overdo the running myself!

Peter:

Just back from 3 weeks (convalescing?) in the Alps, now 2 weeks isolation at home.

Decided to stop running for the 3 weeks I was away. Hamstring has improved but not as quickly as I hoped nor does it feel particularly robust. Just have to hope for incremental improvement over time.

Elsewhere:

I noticed MarkB had his first run  [5k] last week since his ankle injury in May.  Also Jan is now making Tuesday training.
