Hope Fell Race 1st March 2020 – A Family’s Ups and Downs in Derbyshire

The Von Trapp family might have set the hills alight in Austria but the Downes family could give them a good run for their money.  A 10.5km route with 540m of ascent to the summit Win Hill.  Rob put on his hilly shirt on Sunday, for a change, and was blitzed by first lady home Ellen; but managed to get ahead of Juliet. They did very well in the category placings too.

They run it again in Summer – the reverse of Sunday’s course.  I wonder if they would recommend it?  It’s July 1st if anyone is interested.

2017 view of the downhill.

Rob: Haha very nice Patrick. This was a milestone for me. Or maybe a millstone. Anyway it was the first time that I’ve been beaten in a race by either speedy daughter. The writing has been on the wall for years. I’ve avoided facing them on the track and XC. It is a great entry on the day, marked and marshalled fell race.
