2019 Summer Series race 2
Sunday April 14th
Ian Ashcroft reports…
It was one of those days when it starts cold but you expect it to get warmer and the big pre-race tactical decision is what to wear. In fact, you had only your own efforts to warm you up, the sun was weedy and the wind was cold, even at midday.
My running has brought me little fame but Whitley 2016 was the exception; recognition in the Wilmslow shops and reaction from as far away as the U.S. and Australia. I warmed-up down the race route, the road to the buzzard’s lair had a large sign and three guards preventing access, not that I was tempted.
The buzzard had clearly frightened the Wilmslow men who were outnumbered by the ladies, a sign of the times, perhaps, there were the days when the club had only a single female member.
Daniel Cliffe must be some runner to beat Richard by two minutes, Richard himself had a minute on the third.
Andrew, 6th., Claire 23rd., Graham, 25th., Tim, 35th., Louisa 37th. and Nicola, 38th., gave us 6 in the first 40, something no other club came close to matching.
Claire was 2nd. lady, Louisa 4th, Nicola 5th.,Sally 13th., Tracy 15th., Laura 17th. and Kate 19th. 7 in the first 20, pretty impressive.
Sally won League Two with Tracy and Laura second and third. Then came Kate McCulloch, Mark and Colin.
Kate Sutton took League Three with Cat edging out Catherine by a seconding for second place.
Rachael chalked-up her second successive League Four win. Ian held off a surge in the last 100m from Julie, but only because he crossed the start-line earlier, she had the better chip.
