Just nine WRC runners turned out for a great race experience at Buxton Hilly on Wednesday evening: James, Paul, Diane, Sally, Tony, John, Catherine, Julie and I.

We all agreed that it’s nice to get the points but on balance, we’d rather have more competition!  So, doubling up as a race report, this is a plea for more runners at more Club Series races.

As you’ll remember, Wednesday was a hot day. It was 28 degrees when I left home and 24 degrees at the start of the race.  We grumbled about how difficult it is to run in the heat but given the gentle breeze and shade in the woods, the temperature wasn’t a problem.

The Kids Fun Run started the evening.  Given the terrain, I’m sure most of the kids would give it a very different description but there was an ice cream van at the end, so most were smiling by the time we were ready to go.

The Juniors set off, closely followed by the “Seniors”.  It’s a 2 lap course, covering 4.7 miles of trail, up and around the tower, down through the woods and back up to start the second lap.

There are plenty of opportunities to glance to your right and see the most magnificent hills, then a nice pull upwards at the end to the finishing line!

Everyone ran well and we finished in the order we often do!

Afterwards, we had a discussion with Tony about the Club vest and updating it. If anyone has any thoughts, please pass them onto me.  We’ll also be designing some new outer kit for cross country.

Looking forward to seeing as many WRC as possible at Rudyard next week, another SMAC series race.
