Race Series Parkrun Competition – End of April Report

Elspeth writes ……

At the end of April, we now have 65 members who have participated in at least one of the eight parkruns in this year’s competition (2 entries on the 2018 Race Series table).

We have four qualifiers this month. Chris Cannon has qualified for the ‘Enthusiast’ courses of Sale Water, Burnage, Stretford and Wythenshawe. Matt Taylor, Tim Billington and Richard Lawson have qualified for the ‘Popular’ courses of Lyme Park, Wilmslow, Bramhall and Congleton.  Richard has also become the first person to have completed all 8 courses this series – Well Done!

Looking ahead to May we have Gareth Trimble, Mark Crossland and Tony Hulme who have each completed three of the ‘popular’ courses and now must head to Lyme Park for qualification. If Tony completes Lyme Park this month he will have completed all 8 courses.  Sharon Johnstone has already tackled Lyme Park, Wilmslow and Bramhall so now needs to head for Congleton for her points.  Carolyn Hirons, Catherine Machin and Rob Jackson have all run at three of the ‘Enthusiast’ courses so now need to complete the following courses (Carolyn – Sale Water), (Catherine – Burnage) and (Rob – Stretford) for them to qualify next month.

We have one parkrun milestone this month, congratulations go to Richard Lawson who has completed 100 runs this month consisting of 19 different courses. He added to this ‘tourist’ list by visiting both Northwich and Rochdale parkruns this month.  April has also seen the first parkrun in Macclesfield, Event 1 was held on Sat 28th April and was supported by five of our members running.  Hopefully this course will prove popular and may be a contender for inclusion into our parkrun competition next year.

The prize for most exotic parkrun is again a little lacklustre this month as we have no-one who has completed any courses abroad, so Paul Norris earns the title for his run at Hackworth (County Durham) which I am sure was a nice change from his regular course at Bramhall.

Notable runs this month must include Pete Speake who made his parkrun return after his recent achilles problems, he ran 17.35 taking second place at Wilmslow on 7th April.   It is also great to see Huma Rahman back at parkrun, she completed three runs at Stretford in April and all with faster times than she had seen in 2017, Qes Hussain (Huma’s Son) ran a PB on 28th April at Streford of 19.32, so training is certainly paying off in this family at the moment!
