WWHM OFFICIAL STATEMENT

OFFICIAL UPDATE

Sunday 5.00pm.

Thank you all for your understanding and support since we announced the cancellation of today’s race in the early hours of the morning.

We had been monitoring the weather for the last ten days and even yesterday (Saturday), there was optimism that we may escape the wilds of the weather predicted. Additional space blankets were purchased and other contingency plans made.

By 4.00am this morning (Sunday), we were faced with no options but to cancel. Our race partners TDL were able to deliver text to mobile messages. A great benefit, in addition to updates being made to the website.

An emergency committee meeting was convened this morning, and a provisional new date of Sunday 24th June agreed. The great news is that this clashes with very few other races. We are having to make a few calls on Monday/Tuesday to ensure that we can go with that date…Road closures/Traffic management etc. Once known, we will then confirm and plan in full. This will include re-opening the online entry page etc.

As I am sure you will realise, the staging of an event of this scale takes considerable organisation.. There are significant fixed costs that we incur, and additional costs that we will carry forward to any new date.

We very much hope that you can either run the race on the provisional revised date (Sunday 24th June) or be able to transfer your place to another runner. The website also will re-open in a couple of days, allowing people to transfer their place to another runner…OR…the new date may also allow others to enter from scratch! Otherwise, please just hang onto the existing number and enjoy some warmer weather for the revised date!

And…For those who cant make the new date (we really want to see you all!!), we are already in discussion with TDL to offer a solution. More to follow!

Any queries please should be made via the contact page on the website. http://www.wilmslowhalfmarathon.org.uk/contact/

Thank you for your support as always, and thank you for your understanding.

The Race Committee.
