parkrun Race Series Competition – End of January report

Elspeth writes…
The new styled ‘2018 Race Series’ will include two parkrun competitions this year. To gain one entry on the table you will need to run all of the four ‘Popular’ courses – Wilmslow, Bramhall, Lyme Park and Congleton, or all four of the ‘Enthusiast’ courses – Stretford, Burnage, Wythenshawe and Sale Water Park. Run all eight and you will gain two entries on the Race Series table. This year the points awarded will be based on the combined score of your fastest times at each course.
The competition started on the first Saturday of January (6/1/18) and will run to the last Saturday in October.
So, at the end of January we already have 35 members who have participated in at least one of the eight courses. No-one has yet completed four different courses, but Richard Lawson is the current leader who has already completed three separate courses.
On Sat 20th Jan, Burnage had scanning problems as did Congleton on the 27th Jan. If you ran at either of these competitions and your times are not showing on their results, please let me know as I will not have your participation recorded.
January’s lowest turn-out was Saturday 13th, the clash with Woodbank Cross Country may have been a factor, but Carolyn Hirons was undeterred and participated in both Wilmslow parkrun in the morning and then at cross country in the afternoon … dedication!!
Notable performances this month include 1st places for Stuart Parrot at Lyme Park on the 13th Jan, Andy Whittingham at Wilmslow on the 20th, and Daniel Bundred also at Wilmslow on the 27th closely followed in by Trevor Morris in 2nd place. Sharon Johnstone on her first visit to Sale Water Park also came in as first lady on the 20th Jan.
Congratulations go to Tim Billington this month who celebrated his 50th parkrun on 13th Jan showing great determination at Congleton, running all four weeks of January and improving his time each week. Trevor Morris also celebrated his 100th parkrun this month completing both Stretford and Wilmslow on New Year’s Day! Well done Trevor.
The prize for most exotic parkrun of the month must be awarded to Cat Marshall whose attendance at the Mt Clarence Parkrun in Western Australia, showed her commitment to Saturday morning running!
Happy February parkrunning
