Summer Series parkrun – End of September 2017 report

Elspeth writes… Only three Saturdays left in the Summer Series Parkrun Series as the last qualifying park run will be Saturday 21st October, the day before the final Summer Series Race, the Wirksworth Undulator.

September has seen a lot of movement on the tables and we now have 17 runners who have qualified by running Lyme Park parkrun plus another three courses from the following list :- Congleton – Bramhall – Wythenshawe – Burnage – South Manchester – Stretford – Wilmslow.

New qualifiers this month include Trevor Morris, Sharon Johnstone, Ian Smallwood and Jan Wyles, well done to all!

Currently the table is as follows:

Trevor Morris:                8 Courses : Total Time 2hrs 28m 55s

Tony Hulme:                   8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 2m 15s

Mark Crossland :            8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 6m 44s

Patrick Grannan:            8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 8m 50s

John Porteous:                8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 11m 53s

Jan Wyles:                        8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 16m 46s

Ian Ashcroft:                    8 Courses : Total Time 3hrs 29m 54s

Matt Taylor :                    7 Courses : Total Time 2hr 22m 34s

Chris Cannon:                 6 Courses : Total Time 2hrs 26m 44s

Roy Pownall:                   6 Courses : Total Time 2hrs 54m 53s

Sharon Johnstone:        5 Courses : Total Time 1hr 38m 25s

Ian Smallwood:              5 Courses : Total Time 1hr 51m 12s

Stephen Feber:               5 Courses : Total Time 2hr 14m 37s

Christian Hook:              4 Courses : Total Time 1hr 28m 17s

Nicky Mowat:                  4 Courses : Total Time 1hr 36m 30s

Simon Fenton:                4 Courses : Total Time 1hr 48m 0s

Carolyn Hirons:              4 Courses : Total Time 1hr 53m 31s

As can be seen from the list above we have another 3 members – Trevor Morris, John Porteous, Jan Wyles who join Tony, Mark, Patrick and Ian at the top half of the table after completing all 8 courses. Matt Taylor moves up to 7 courses so needs to head for South Manchester to try and get his 8 in.

Looking ahead to the final three weeks, everyone who has run at least once still has the potential to qualify. Those already on three courses are Catriona Marshall and Don Bullough (both completed Lyme Park, Wilmslow & Congleton) together with Sue Strang (completed Lyme Park, Wilmslow and South Manchester). All three need just one more course to qualify. Catherine Mellor has completed 7 courses in total but still needs to head up to Lyme Park to qualify, as does Andy Whittingham, Richard Hirons, Alan Turner, Sharon Jones all on 4 courses and Gail Hill currently on 3 courses.

Notable parkruns have included a double win at Wilmslow on 23/9/17 when both Jim Pendrill and Di McVey took 1st men’s and ladies’ places respectively, and a course PB for Di too! We had a bumper turnout on 2/9/17 at Lyme Park resulting in Trevor and Jan’s qualifications. A good month too for Sharon Johnstone taking 1st Lady at both Wilmslow and Lyme Park. Congratulations also go to Stephen Feber who on 23/9/17 completed his 100th parkrun.

Unfortunately a technical glitch with a stopwatch at Lyme Park on 23/9/17 meant that times were not recorded so 59.59 has been logged for every runner. Tony Hulme, Richard Lawson and Sue Strang were affected but their participation has been recorded so the run will count towards their 4 qualifying races if needed.

So with three weeks left ….. Happy October parkrunning!
